DIY Kitchen Makeover Using Cupboard Paint
Painting cupboard doors is the highest-impact, lowest-cost kitchen makeover available to UK renters and owners alike. Done properly it survives years of daily use; done impatiently it chips within a month. The difference is almost entirely preparation.
Prep decides everything
Remove the doors and hinges â painting around them is the classic false economy. Degrease every surface with sugar soap (kitchen grime is invisible until paint refuses to stick to it), sand lightly to key the surface, and prime with an adhesion primer if the doors are laminate or gloss. Two thin topcoats of a dedicated cupboard or multi-surface paint beat one thick coat every time; leave a proper cure â often several days â before reattaching anything.
While the doors are off
